In February of this year, the Secondary Four English class visited the city of Iqaluit and Arctic College. The purpose of this trip was to show students a different path for their education in years to come. The group visited not only the Arctic College campus, but also several major landmarks and cultural offices including the territorial government building.
Students were able to compare cultural artifacts of Nunavut to what they had previously seen in Nunavik, as well as discovered more ideas about self-government and sustainability among the Inuit of Canada. We toured several museums and most importantly the legislature of all of Nunavut. Students were impressed with the scope of cultural activity going on in the city as well as many of the different avenues of education and education programs available at Arctic College.
Hopefully we will all be able to visit again sometime soon!
