We are pleased to announce that Jaanimmarik has been part of the Compassionate Schools initiative since the 2013-2014 school year.
- Helps all of our students by providing them with the support that they need;
- Provides a better understanding of how some of the students’ behaviours and learning difficulties can be the result of trauma, including intergenerational trauma;
- Teaches the whole student, meaning that we do not ignore their emotional state when trying to teach curriculum.
Also, Compassionate Schools try to create a more positive environment that will encourage our students’ well-being and academic achievement. It aims to provide a school culture that puts a focus on building healthy relationships between students and staff which are:
- Safe (physically and emotionally)
One of the purposes of this project is to establish clear school-wide expectations and to encourage a sense of community in which we all - students, teachers, support staff, administration and parents - play a positive role in our school’s success and safety. We have developed school-wide expectations and a system in order to “catch the students being good.” This is implemented throughout the school, including in the classrooms, bathrooms, gym, hallways and recess areas.
Jaanimmarik has defined the core values of our school as:
Our team is dedicated to create a school climate that will encourage high expectations, school success and resilience. We believe that by helping students choose appropriate behavior, we will form a school community where all students have the opportunity to grow and succeed.
We look forward to the journey ahead!
Your support is very much appreciated!
The teachers, support staff and administration of Jaanimmarik.
